David Wilson has joined Riff Raff Films for music videos and commercials.
The director of acclaimed and award-winning videos for the likes of Royal Blood, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, Metronomy, David Guetta and The Maccabees, and winner of the Best Director award at the UKMVAs in 2015, Wilson is moving over from Colonel Blimp and Blink, where he has been represented since he emerged as an exciting directing talent in 2009.
Wilson's videos include Royal Blood's Out Of The Black - winner of two awards at last year's UKMVAs – and Tame Impala's Let It Happen, Arcade Fire's We Exist, Arctic Monkeys' Do I Wanna Know, David Guetta ft Sia's Titanium and Metronomy's The Bay. He has also become an award winning commercials director, with work for Ikea, Cadbury, Cancer Research, and O2.
A graduate of Brighton College of Art, and starting out as an animator - which remains an important element in his work – he joined Blink as a researcher and runner in 2007 at the age of 22. In a statement on his Instagram page, Wilson paid tribute to his now-former home: "I will always be proud of every single piece of work I’ve created within the @blinkprods family..." Wilson wrote. "Thank you for embracing every part of my evolving creative mind and encouraging me to be me within the commercials industry. You taught me that true originality comes from within."
In a statement released by Riff Raff Films announcing Wilson's arrival, the director has also said: "To cross to another production company was not a decision I took lightly... Riff Raff has proven itself to be beyond impressive in its ambition and commitment to achieving creative excellence within the commercial and music video sphere. I'm very excited to be a part of its next chapter."
Matthew Fone, founder/MD of Riff Raff Films, has told Promonews that he's delighted to have David Wilson join a roster that already includes Casey & Ewan, Megaforce, Luke Monaghan, Ben Reed, Francois Rousselet, The Sacred Egg and Emile Sornin.
